Murfreesboro City Schools is pleased to announce that Ms. Sonya Cox has been selected as the next principal of Erma Siegel Elementary. A highly respected educator and leader within the district, Ms. Cox brings extensive experience in instructional leadership, school culture development, and collaborative school improvement.
Ms. Cox has served at Cason Lane Academy for the past seven years, including four years as principal and three years as assistant principal. During her tenure, she supported significant academic initiatives, STEM accreditation, strengthened family and community engagement, and created a student-centered school environment.
Her appointment also marks a meaningful return to Erma Siegel Elementary. Prior to her work at Cason Lane, Ms. Cox served as an instructional coach at Erma Siegel, collaborating closely with teachers to enhance instructional practices and student achievement.
“I am honored to return to Erma Siegel and excited to serve this wonderful school community once again,” said Ms. Cox. “It is bittersweet to leave Cason Lane, where I have built strong relationships with students, families, and staff. However, I look forward to this new opportunity and to continuing the work of supporting students and teachers in Murfreesboro City Schools.”
“Ms. Cox has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership in every role she has held, and we are excited to see her bring that experience to this new opportunity,” said Dr. Trey Duke, Director of Schools. “Her return to Erma Siegel is a wonderful next step for both her and the school community. She is a proven leader whose vision, expertise, and commitment to students make her an outstanding choice to guide Erma Siegel Elementary into its next chapter.”
Ms. Cox will begin her new role this summer as the school prepares for the upcoming academic year. Murfreesboro City Schools will begin the search for the next principal of Cason Lane Academy immediately.
