Murfreesboro City Schools (MCS) will hold its annual open enrollment period for zone waivers from February 26 through March 27, 2026. During this time, parents and guardians may request for their child to attend a school within the district other than the one to which they are zoned if open seats are available.

There are two types of zone waiver requests, both completed on the same form:
1. A new zone waiver request (see chart below for available open seats)
2. A request for students currently on a zone waiver to remain at their school

To support families as they explore their options, MCS will host Open Zone School Tours on March 3 and March 12. These tours give families the opportunity to visit campuses, meet staff, explore programs, and learn more about what each school offers. Some schools require advance booking, and families are encouraged to check individual school websites for details.

Zone waiver applications must be completed each year and apply to one school year only. Approval is based on school enrollment and capacity. Families should note that students accepted on a zone waiver must provide their own transportation, maintain strong attendance, behavior, and effort to remain at the new school.

The open seats listed in the chart below reflects availability for new zone request only and does not apply to students on an existing zone waiver.
