The following resources are and have been used with MCS students, and we want to share them with you. MCS Students are constantly changing and discovering more and more about themselves and others. We hope these resources help with supporting our collaborative effort in your child’s success!

Sanford Harmony

Sanford-Harmony is an evidenced-based social-emotional learning curriculum that is being utilized in Murfreesboro City Schools. In addition to providing lessons and materials for educators to use in school with students, the website also provides resources that families can use at home including question cards and games.

Second Step

Second-Step is an evidence-based curriculum being used in Murfreesboro City Schools to provide instruction for students in areas including problem-solving, skills for learning, emotional management, and empathy. On the website, resources have been provided for parents to be able to reinforce these skills at home.


MCS works very hard to have a positive learning environment for all of our students. We subscribe to the RTI2B programming to help support all students’ behaviors. Each MCS school has set expectations that we teach and uphold. To read more about these interventions and incentives, as well as your significant role is supporting this program, click on the link.


Anxiety has become a common obstacle that our students encounter. Try some of these tips to help your child in those moments of crisis:

1. Give them time to breathe
2. Validate their feelings
3. LISTEN to what they are saying
4. Problem solve together
5. Check in regularly

This fun and humorous book addresses the problem of anxiety in a way that relates to children of all ages. It offers creative strategies for parents and teachers to use that can lessen the severity of anxiety.

Soda Pop Head by Julia Cook, Read Aloud

Lester’s dad comes to his rescue by teaching him a few techniques to “loosen the top” and cool down before his fizz takes control. Soda Pop Head will help your child control his/her anger while helping them manage stress.

Help Me Be Good Books by Joy Berry, Read Alouds

This is a series of books that helps teach children to think about their behavior and about making good choices. Topics of focus are Being Greedy, Selfish, Wasteful, Bossy, Bad Sport, etc.
