All children residing inside the corporate city limits of Murfreesboro with parent(s) or legal guardian(s) and who meet the designated age requirements shall be admitted to the Murfreesboro City Schools.
STUDENTS OUT OF CITY WITHIN RUTHERFORD COUNTY
Students residing with parent(s) or legal guardian(s) and living outside the city limits but within Rutherford County may be assigned to a Murfreesboro City School contingent upon available space. The Board has the authority to limit, adjust, or modify the enrollment as it deems necessary.
OUT-OF-COUNTY STUDENTS
At the discretion of the administrative staff, out-of-county students may be assigned to a city school. Students assigned will be assessed an annual tuition fee.
INFORMATION APPLICABLE TO ALL STUDENTS
A student entering the school system for the first time (including preschool, kindergarten, first grade and those transferring from other systems) must present to the school principal:
A birth certificate or officially acceptable evidence of date of birth at the time of registration.
Evidence of a current medical examination. There shall be a complete medical examination of every student entering school for the first time.
Current evidence of state-required immunization.
Proof of address of parent or legal guardian upon initial enrollment; however, proof of residence or guardianship may be requested at any time by the school administrator.
The name used on the records of a student entering school must be that shown on the birth certificate unless evidence is presented that such name has been legally changed through a court as prescribed by law. If the parent does not have, or cannot obtain, a birth certificate, then the name used on the records of such student will be that as shown on documents which are acceptable to the school principal as proof of date of birth.
In the absence of an epidemic or immediate threat thereof, immunization shall not be required of any child whose parent or guardian shall object thereto in writing on grounds that such immunization and other preventive measures conflict with the religious tenants and practices of a well-organized religious denomination whose teachings include reliance on prayer or spiritual means alone or healing of which s(he) is an adherent or member. (TCA 49-1766)
Any immunization specified above shall not be required if a qualified physician shall certify that administration of such immunization would be in any manner harmful to the child involved. (TCA 49-1768)
