Dr. Linda Gilbert, Director of Murfreesboro City Schools, is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Tammy Grizzard as Principal for Hobgood Elementary.

Grizzard will replace Barbara Sales who retires in June.

Grizzard, a native of Middle Tennessee, most recently served as Coordinator of Teaching and Learning for Murfreesboro City Schools.  Previously, Dr. Grizzard taught 6^th grade at Hobgood Elementary and served as team leader.   Before joining Murfreesboro City Schools, Dr. Grizzard served as Assistant Superintendent-Instruction at Franklin County Schools.

“Dr. Grizzard is an exemplary educator who models excellence. She has the experience, talent, and common sense to build on Hobgood’s solid foundation and lead it into the future,” says Dr. Linda Gilbert, Director of Schools.

Hobgood is projected to enroll 450 students for the 2012-13 school year.  In addition to a new principal, students and teachers will begin their new year with a new look for the school including five classrooms, a teacher work area, a renovated cafeteria and other amenities as Phase 1 of a $5.5 million renovation is completed.

“There is a tradition in the Olympic world of “passing the torch.”  The torch at Hobgood is blazing with wonderful things that the staff, students, and families have ignited,” says Barbara Sales, Principal.  “As I step away from Hobgood School, I find great comfort in passing the torch to Dr. Tammy Grizzard.  Dr. Grizzard’s appointment is not only well thought-out but also resoundingly applauded and well deserved.  She has proven to be an asset to our district as she has positively impacted teachers and classrooms.  My congratulations to Dr. Grizzard!”

Grizzard received her Bachelor of Science degree from MTSU.  She obtained her Masters and Ed.S in Instructional Leadership from Tennessee Technological University and her Doctorate in Education from Tennessee State University.

Hobgood Elementary is a NASA Explorer School, a National Title I Distinguished School and was recently named in the top nine schools in Tennessee for Valued Added Achievement.  Hobgood offers open enrollment for students outside the Hobgood zone and is currently accepting new student applications.
