John Pittard Elementary has been recognized as a Tennessee Designated STEAM School by the Tennessee Department of Education in partnership with the Tennessee STEM Innovation Network (TSIN). This designation affirms that the school meets the highest standards of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) instruction.
“I am excited for our students and staff who have worked so hard to receive this designation,” said Dr. Christy Robinson, Principal of John Pittard Elementary. “This achievement is the result of the vision and hard work of a dedicated team of educators.”
STEAM education offers a dynamic approach to teaching and learning that emphasizes creativity, innovation, and critical thinking. STEAM instruction builds students’ analytical skills and helps them explore how they understand and interact with the world.
John Pittard Elementary becomes the tenth school in Murfreesboro City Schools to earn a STEM or STEAM designation, joining Overall Creek, Erma Siegel, Bradley, Reeves-Rogers, Cason Lane, Discovery, Black Fox, Hobgood, and Salem Elementary.
The designation process at John Pittard was guided by Dr. Robinson and a dedicated STEAM committee consisting of educators Luke Hill, Sasha Burnette, Sarah Easterly, Rebekah Tate, and Spring Harris. However, all staff did their part to achieve this goal.
“I am thrilled that John Pittard is receiving this well-deserved recognition,” said Dr. Trey Duke, Director of Murfreesboro City Schools. “The work that Dr. Robinson and her team have done is nothing short of extraordinary.”
This accomplishment supports Murfreesboro City Schools’ five-year strategic plan, which calls for all schools in the district to achieve STEM or STEAM designation as part of a district-wide commitment to high-quality, hands-on learning. With this announcement, Murfreesboro City Schools now boasts ten schools with STEM or STEAM designation, including Overall Creek, Erma Siegel, Bradley, Reeves-Rogers, Cason Lane, Discovery, Black Fox, Hobgood, Salem, and the newly designated John Pittard Elementary.
