Bradley Academy students are “shaking a leg” and “stomping their feet” as they learn about the history of this community through the “music of the times.” The Macon Music Education Project is a partnership between Uncle Dave Macon Days and the Murfreesboro City Schools. Monthly, the students at Bradley Academy for the Arts attend an assembly to build their interest in America’s rich musical heritage.

September’s focus was the Roots of Music. Performers were the Slim Chance String Band. Students had a chance to experience the music and dances that were common in the early days of Murfreesboro. In addition, they heard about how Murfreesboro and Rutherford County came to be.

October’s focus was the Depression. Performers were the Jake Leg Stompers. And, the children heard what it was like to live during that period in history.

Many thanks to the Uncle Dave Macon Education Committee, and especially to Gloria Christy, Bill Shacklett, Julie Harris, and Dena ONeal.
