Discovery School has earned another national recognition by going green. The Arbor Day Foundation has named Discovery School a 2024–2025 K-12 Tree Campus, celebrating the school’s commitment to tree education, hands-on environmental experiences, and meaningful community partnerships.
This honor places Discovery School as the first elementary school campus in Middle Tennessee with this designation and among an elite six schools across the state to receive the designation. The Tree Campus program recognizes schools, colleges, and healthcare institutions that use the power of trees to enrich the places where we live, learn, and grow.
Discovery School teamed up with The City of Murfreesboro and local nonprofit MoreTreesBoro to bring this vision to life.
“We are so proud of this partnership and this designation,” said Principal Caitlin Bullard. “Working with our city arborist, Carson Elder, and our partners at MoreTreesBoro made this achievement possible, and our students have truly enjoyed embracing the power of trees and sustainability in our world.”
Beyond the shaded walkways and playgrounds, trees reduce heat, improve air quality, and promote better physical, mental, and cognitive health for students and staff alike.
The Tree Campus program is a collaboration between the Arbor Day Foundation, Project Learning Tree, and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative.
Discovery School is an academic magnet school proudly serving students in kindergarten through 6th grade. The school recently received their redesignation as a Tennessee designated STEAM school by the Department of Education and the Tennessee Science Innovative Network.
