Murfreesboro City Schools (MCS) is excited to announce its 2025 Parent University classes, offering a variety of free workshops designed to empower parents with tools and strategies to support their children’s education and well-being. These engaging and informative sessions are open to all parents and caretakers within the MCS community.

Freeing the Anxious Generation

  • Date: Thursday, January 23
  • Time: 6:00 PM
  • Location: Salem Elementary, 3400 St. Bernard Way
  • Overview: Join Dr. Trey Duke as he explores the research-based effects of screen time on children’s brains. This parent-friendly conversation will provide impactful tools and strategies to help families thrive.

New Year, New Math

  • Date: Tuesday, January 28
  • Time: 4:00 PM
  • Location: Zoom (Online)
  • Overview: Frustrated by “new math”? Dr. Molly Oliver will demystify modern math methods and share meaningful ways to help your K-6 students at home.

Characteristics of Dyslexia

  • Date: Wednesday, January 29
  • Time: 4:30 PM
  • Location: Zoom (Online)
  • Overview: Kathy Daugherty, MCS Reading Coordinator, will discuss what it means when a child is identified with characteristics of dyslexia and the available supports.

Helping Students Cope with BIG Emotions

  • Date: Tuesday, February 18
  • Time: 4:30 PM
  • Location: Zoom (Online)
  • Overview: Emily Hughes, STARS Therapist, will provide strategies to help children manage and express overwhelming emotions, building their emotional intelligence.
