MCS News Update

Murfreesboro City Schools shows tremendous progress according to the Tennessee State Report Card.  Murfreesboro City School students exhibited growth in academic achievement in all content areas. Students, teachers, principals and staff should be commended.

While the enhanced curriculum implemented last year and the deepening of professional learning communities are elements in the increased achievement of our students, the real driving force behind our district’s success is our teachers.

“We are extremely pleased with our overall growth,” says Dr. Linda Gilbert. “We are celebrating the successes reflected by this report card and looking forward to continuing our forward momentum.”

In specific scores, Murfreesboro City boasts the highest growth in Middle Tennessee in Reading and Language Arts.  And our math and social studies scores speak for themselves.  Although our science scores have improved, we can do better.  Our schools are enthusiastically implementing strategies to better address science in the classroom.

The district also exceeded the state growth standards in gains in all grade levels and in all content areas, with the exception of 4th grade social studies and 5th grade science.

Like a parent reviewing their child’s report card, the state report card gives us a chance to look over our schools and adjust strategies and emphasis to ensure each child and each school is getting the support they need.
