To further support students’ social emotional needs, Murfreesboro City Schools has implemented a Calm Coach Program. A Calm Coach is trained to support students who are emotionally dysregulated and may need a calm space to take a break. Teachers are encouraged to have a calm space or calm corner in the classroom so students can take brief breaks, or the teacher can request the Calm Coach to work with the student in the school’s Calm Room for a 15-20 minute break. In the Calm Room, the student is encouraged by the Calm Coach to learn skills as they work through the stations that teach regulation and coping strategies. Please contact your child’s teacher or school counselor if you have any questions about the Calm Coach Program.
Please check out the story that WKRN Channel 2 reported about the Calm Coach Program.
