Murfreesboro City Schools Director Dr. Linda Gilbert is proud to announce the appointment of Maria Johnson as Principal for Scales Elementary replacing Don Bartch.

Johnson has served as Assistant Principal at Scales since July 2012. She has an extensive background working with children including positions as a juvenile counselor/mental health case manager, classroom teacher and Assistant Principal for Simpson Elementary School in Simpson County, Kentucky.
“Maria has gained the respect of the faculty, parents and student body at Scales. She has a wealth of knowledge and the leadership skills to continue to move Scales forward,” says Don Bartch, current Scales Principal.

The opportunity for principal at Scales comes after the appointment of current principal Don Bartch to oversee the opening and serve as principal of Overall Creek Elementary. Both Johnson and Bartch will assume their new roles in January 2014.
“I love being a part of the Scales community and look forward to this new opportunity,” says Johnson. “Scales enjoys a wonderful reputation for student learning and community involvement.”

Scales has the largest student population in the Murfreesboro City School district currently enrolling nearly 1,100 students. The opening of Overall Creek Elementary in August 2014 will relieve the overcrowding at Scales.
Johnson received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Louisville and her Master of Art Degree in Education Administration from Western Kentucky University.

Johnson resides in Murfreesboro with her husband, Kavin, son, Lantz Williams, and stepsons, Kavin Jr., and Landon.

Scales Elementary, a Murfreesboro City School, is located at 2340 St. Andrews Drive in Murfreesboro.

Murfreesboro City Schools is a district of twelve schools committed to the academic and personal success of each child.
