MCS News Update

Murfreesboro City Schools was awarded the first ever Shining Star Award for their work during the 2015 Summer Food Service Program. Sandy Scheele, MCS Nutrition Director, attended the No Tennessee Child Hungry Excellence Awards at the Tennessee Capital where she accepted the honor. The award is given to the summer food service program that excels in all award categories.

In 2015 the nutrition department increased their summer feeding sites from 18 to 31 and increased the number of meals served by over 35,000. The addition of the second mobile feeding station, the CHOW Bus XL, allowed MCS to increase our community impact and ensured that children from our community had a place to receive a nutritious meal while school was not in session.

The No Tennessee Child Hungry Excellence Awards were established as a way to recognize the hard work and dedication of SFSP sponsors and we’re honored to receive the award.
