Overall Creek students took a trip on their favorite rocket ship to visit Mars this week. After reading a study in National Geographic that stated there was a possibility we would colonize Mars, several third and fourth grade classes combined to research what it would actually take. Students began by creating poster boards to showcase the different crews required to have sustainable life on the “Red Planet”. The crews worked separately to learn facts about areas such as Botany and Life Support before realizing that teamwork among the crews could help the outcome of making it to Mars and surviving. After completing research and construction of the bio dome students were able to provide tours of Mars.

The dome was stationed in the steam storage room and conjoining classrooms with Space Commanders who were able to enlighten us about the function of each area and facts about the planet. It was equipped with a bedroom, medical center, botany room, and control room. There were “windows” that let us view, the rocket outside, Mars’s two moons, and the rover that scaled the terrains. With the students’ quick thinking and mathematic formulas they were able to bring us back home safely.

Throughout this process of learning and exploring the Overall Creek students were able to keep everything green. The Mars set was created out of many recyclable items like cardboard and construction paper. The trip was not only a fun learning experience for the students but for every visitor involved.
